Our missions
Our missions
The World Association of Beet and Cane Growers (WABCG) is the international organisation which groups together the national and regional associations of sugar beet and sugar cane growers at international level.
WABCG has 37 member associations uniting sugar beet and sugar cane growers from the five continents. WABCG is present in 34 countries, producing 60% of world sugar production.
WABCG is a non-political organisation in close contact with other international organisations in the sugar sector and, in particular, the International Sugar Organization (ISO). It is fully financed and controlled by its member organisations.
The two main objectives of WABCG are the following :
-
- to contribute towards the economic, technical and social well-being of beet
and cane growers, by organising an exchange of information and ideas on all problems encountered in the sector.
- to contribute towards the economic, technical and social well-being of beet
-
- to contribute towards strengthening the professional representation of beet and cane growers in national and international fora
Sharing knowledge and ideas is the key action, and reason for being, of WABCG.
Growers’ associations benchmark their activities and visions during conferences and trips, but also via studies and documents, which are shared amongst members and outside the association.
Every month, members’ associations receive:
-
- our traditional ‘FlashMarket’:
a 9-page document whose goal is to help growers’ associations understand sugar and ethanol fundamentals, but also currency movements, oil and
grain markets and freight developments.
- our traditional ‘FlashMarket’:
-
- our ‘News from WABCG’:
a magazine giving information on about the latest developments and lobbying activities of growers’ associations around the world.
- our ‘News from WABCG’:
At a rhythm of about once a year, a detailed study is conducted and shared. Amongst the latest studies, the following have been published and are now references for the sector:
-
- How is the value of beet and cane
shared between growers and factories throughout the world?
- How is the value of beet and cane
-
- How is the transparency of the assessment of the value of sugar beet and sugar cane delivered by growers around the world guaranteed?
-
- What technical support is available
to beet and cane growers around the world?Â
- What technical support is available
-
- Certification and segmentation: How is extra value is given to sugar beet and cane growers around the world?
-
- Carbon farming: is it really an opportunity for cane & beet growers?
